starter control switch

I emailed S&S and asked them directly because I am not sold on some of the self proclaimed expertise that I see here from individuls that think they know what they are talking about (which just adds to a rediculous level of being mislead and confusion). Doing this will put to bed any question as to the function of the electronic compression releases that are installed on the 117" motor on some of the Big Dog motorcycles. Their email response is below.

"The compression releases only activate when the starter is turning (When your finger is on the start button during start up) and then they close as soon as you stop cranking the engine."

Thanks,
Glick Brent

My email to S&S:

Could you explain the sequence of operations for electronic compression releases that come with the 117" engine supplied with the Big Dog line up? Basically, when the come on, when they shut off and anything in between. Thank you.

Thats a bit rough on your fellow members here Loafington!!!! I think that it was clearly stated that the comments were directed at those guys that have EFI which "I bleive" have a throttle position sensor. I wouldn't put all my money on S&S knowing what our bikes do as they use the EHC that controls about everything on your bikes.

Sometimes one needs to be rough. Reading past posts regarding this topic, and others, are enough to confuse the shit out of people and potentially send them down the wrong road and deeper into shit at times. Sometimes people's opinions are nice and meaningful. Other times facts are needed to properly diagnose and fix problems that we all encounter from time to time. Someone giving false fact about components installed on our motorcycles is of no use and causes more harm than good. If I offended fellow members, my apologies. I meant what I said, and criticism is a part of life. What I said was not meant to be offensive in nature, it was meant to point out a fact from the people that manufacture our engines. I sugar coat very little, there is no time for that. Don't get me wrong, some of the information shared here amongst the members is invaluable and worth every minute of reading, some is just the opposite and is frustrating to read.

Thanks Dogvet,

I have often wondered as my pup seem to hesitate just a tad longer than my Deluxe... I always thought it was the battery.....

Don't Look at my Member!
It could be. Then again, it could be a lot of things.
Thank you so much for that demagracious factoid! Please tell us where your compresion releases are located so we can verify that we answer all your questions with nothing but acurate straight to the point valuable information so as to allow you to keep your Heinz 57 up and running.

You guys need to appologize for leading this poor dog shit shovler in the wrong direction from his compression releases. Gas Man You should be ashamed!

I was just intially looking for some advice on why my Dog studders for a split second when starting cold and Wham!! All this mudslinging and craziness. Some of you guys... Hold up. Let's try and stay within the subject matter. I admit, I have jacked a couple of threads but hopefully never in a mean way. Let's all get along here now.
