Starter concern on Mastiff

BigDog Bikers I've got a 03 Mastiff and sometimes the starter doesn't properly engage and start the engine. I've checked the battery and it's ok. Does anyone have any suggestions on this or maybe someone has had the same problem before and can give me some assistance. Thanks!

The Harley dealer where I bought the bike used told me that it does that because of the high engine compression which makes it harder on the starter and difficult to turn over. What do you think?

Sometimes It may be. Mine sounds like when you try to start a car after it is already running. All screechy and shit. Not often but once in a while.

Just had the dealer replace my starter (07 K-9). The orginal starter was continuing to pull a charge off the battery. It's been two weeks now with the new starter, no problems.

I have an 03 and it's what Gas says. Its the compression releases. 04 and above came with them installed ours don't but come set up so that they can be installed. What the HD dealership told you was correct. So if your starter hesitates a bit, and there is a pause before it turns over thats kinda normal for your bike....but you do run the risk of frying your starter.

I have not put the compression releases on mine and have not had any issues AS LONG as i keep my batter on a tender. Make sure you have a good batter and charged and that will resolve some of your issues.
