Come on Dave! Tell us what the verdict is on these pipes? Tuning or otherwise. I hope you tuned them by now or something? Why you leaving us hanging man? Or is this an ancient Big Dog secret?

Dave,
I got a set of the Chaos III coming in about two weeks and after reading about your pipes, I'm like a kid at Christmas. Can you or anyone else tell me what the stock jetting is from BDM? And do you know a mail order palce to get Super G jets from?

Thanks,
Dan

Question. I really like the looks of these pipes. I'm interested in the chaos III's. I checked their website for dealers in Oregon and there are only two. The one closest to me is Latus Motors (a HD dealership). I inquired with them to get a price and am still waiting for a callback, but the parts person mentioned that hadn't done buisness with them for about 3 years and remembers they had fitting issues. Has anybody had any problems with pipes from Stainless Creations?

I got the very first set of pipes from him for our RSD bikes when they first came out. That was back in Nov 04 and the transmission mount didn't fit right. Seems he didn't have a SSW+ motor and Baker DD6 to use as a template.
But that was long ago and he has made hundreds in the meantime without any problems.
My only issue now with the SS pipes is the metal breaks easily. I've fixed the bracket on my drap pipes twice and three times on my Wrath pipe. But that may be that I just put a lot of miles on the bike. :D

I got my Chaos III installed pretty easily. They did not send bolts for two of the brackets but I used some I had on hand. I needed to reuse the flanges and retaining ring from the stock pipe because they didn't include them either. They sound and perform good. They do get a gold tint real quick but I'm told that it will polish off. I just ran into a problem yesterday where my clutch cable came in contact with the pipe and melted it pretty good. I think it made it stretch and is causing hard shifting now. Hopefully adjusting the cable will make it right again. They are pricey but I would get them again. Call them direct to order and they will give you options since they make them one at a time and custom to your bike and style.

Mastiff, you can order jets from J&P cycle for your S&S carb.

Mastiff, I didn't see the first part of that question. I believe stock jets are 29.5 (int) and 74 (main). From an earlier thread, it seems that most on here run 31/33 (int) and a 76/78 (main). To many variables to say just what you need.

Thanks Raywood, demo man, & mastiff09,

Much appreciate the comments. I didn't know you could order direct!!!

I got a call back from the HD dealer today and they quoted me $780 plus shipping.

I think I might be going directly to SS.

Thanks again for the comments and advice:up:

Stainless Creation pipes are large bore. He uses 2 3/8" pipe. A lot of use have had him sleeve up the Thunder Monster baffles to fit. They sound great. You can hear mine on my vid "Palm Springs Ride" in the Gallery. Sound great. Remember he doesn't make heat shields but he offers ceramic coating (doesn't work for me). Downside is expensive.

These are the drag pipes he made for me back in 04 while at Little Sturgis:

I like the designs, but I can do without the stepped pipes, and the bluing. I'm not sure what purpose the stepped pipe is supposed to serve, but it's not performance.

SS pipes don't blue, they will turn a golden shade color that can easily be removed with some polish and brought back to a beautiful shine unlike chrome.

Here's an article on exhaust pipes from Hot Bikers new Bagger mag.

Stepped Pipes
Header pipes can be stepped for improved performance. Stepped headers are divided into two or more pipe sections (usually two or three) with each successive section at least 1/8-inch larger than the previous section. A stepped header generates more low-pressure waves than a non-stepped design, but the waves are weaker. Steps help maintain a higher average gas velocity over the total length of header pipe. A stepped header doesn't necessarily make more power than a non-stepped pipe, but it can broaden the engine's torque curve by widening the scavenging wave's effect. This can result in high torque at low rpm while maintaining high horsepower at high rpm

Chopper Dave, I love to see your posts so I can stare at them boobies by your signature. :D I like nice boobs. I think I was a bit hypnotized.

I got the "quiet baffles" in mine and had the ends cut similiar to the Big Radius but nicer. Look great!! Heat shields are an option but they are wielded on and non-removable. I didn't get the ceramic coating but I did spray high temp paint inside before installing. Not sure if it will do anything but it made me happy.
