Having a problem with my belt squeaking. I have heard about bad pulleys on the dog's. Should I try to clean everything real good or should I just replace the belt and pulley?

Since I hate digging through the archives I'll bite. Align your rear and tension belt as per the 2,000 other posts on this subject. The one thing I do different though, is I jack up the rear, and spin the tire as if the bike were moving forward, and watch how the belt tracks. If it tracks against one side of the pulley or the other, adjust the alignment until it tracks in the center. I would not go more than 1/8" out of alignment to get the belt tracking properly, but unless you have other issues you shouldn't have to. On my left side drive, I have about a credit card's thickness on either side of the belt while spinning the rear, and yes, I have to knock the rear a little less than 1/16" out of alignment to achieve this. Double check the tension, and this should fix the squeal. I had major issues, tried everything, dealer aligned it, wd40, soap, etc on the sides of the belt, and lived with this friggin problem for about 5k miles before a guy who has been building bikes longer then I've been walking this earth showed me this method. Since then the problem has been solved.

I will try that when I get 'er back together. It seemed that my adjustment screws were maxed out though. I might have to replace the belt. I have searched this forum before on this subject and others. I used it to hardwire my tails last summer when the lights went black. I respect everyone on here and think it is a great way to keep us Dog lovers together.

Man you'd really have to stretch that belt to max them out. I know this is a dumb question, but you took out the keeper screws right? There is a 3/8" long grub screw that has to come completely out before you can get to the adjuster screws. Also, PM me, I have a belt laying around here with about 10k miles on it you can have for free, just PM me your address. I have no use for it, it came off an 04 Chopper so not sure if they are the same.
