squeaking from primary

Ok so i took my chopper for a trip today. 180miles on the highway. When i arrived i noticed a squeaking on and off sound as i slow down coming from the chaincase. I can hear it as i come off the gas. I pull the clutch in and it lasts for a few seconds as i slow down then stops while im still rolling. The only things i have done recently was change the primary oil and i tightened the chain a little. But since then i have rode prolly 200 miles and have not heard anything. Even had it on the highway since with no problems. Only today it started. So i tend to think its not the oil or chain but i could be wrong. Like i said when i pull the clutch in it squeaks a few seconds then stops as im still rolling. What could this be?

I had a Fat boy that did that exact same thing.

It was my belt drive, a little wax on the belt soon stopped it.

Common places to get a squeek could be coming from the drive belt, the throw out bearing, trans bearing, the tip of the push rod for the clutch may need some grease.

Im thinking its the belt...problem is im not home and have no tools to open the case and take a look...ill try some wax tomorrow and hooe that helps...seems like all the road dust and grime caused my kickstand to have a horrible squeak also..oiled that up...i guess the highway causes squeaks lol

Bar soap rubbed on the inside and outside edges of the belt will let you know if thats the culprit.

Heck yeah...a little irish spring shut her right up!
Glad you figured out the problem. The best way to solve it is to make sure your motor-trans-pully are all lined up straight. Mine chirpped till I did a rebuild and realigned everything. Not a sound one now. Just a thought.....

I have noticed on mine that it will start to squeek when the drive belt has too much play. Might want to check that as well and adjust it which will cure the squeek as well.

the teeth look fine. Road it back home and started a little squeak again. Is there a tutorial on here that could help me with adjusting the belt?
