spitting oil

At start up I have a little oil splatter coming out of the big radius pipes and speckling the garage floor. Is this normal or is this a carb problem.

I would have to say that is certainly not normal. Someone with a bit more experience should chime in soon.. good luck

sound like you may have a leak from the top end our through the piston rings. through the valve guides is more likely, either way this is not a good thing. question, is it burning oil that you can tell, smoking, anything.

yeah, I didn't think of that, if it's not venting then it could be causing too much pressure buildup pushing oil through some where. I know my bike vents from the top of the head in the middle. Not sure how your motor vents, if it's the same as mine, it should be as simple as checking the rear breather tube for any blockages. I'm sure others will chime in.

good point BBc, if you're not smoking and not using oil then it could just be moisture. try and feel the "oil splatter" and see if it feels "oily" or not.
