Spike back to Stock Air Filter

Purchase my 2007 Pitbull last year and it already had spike installed. Owner provided me all the parts for the stock. Just recently put on the 5" extensions from DM Custom (Awesome fit BTW). Now the damn spike is banging me on the inner shin (tried both horizontal and vertical). Question is, how difficult is it to reinstall the stock air cleaner and does anyone know where I can get directions to do this? Searched it but couldn't find anyting very helpful. I'm a newbie at this stuff and would appreciate any assistance. Looks like a difficult swap out with all the springs and crap going to this thing.

Thank you in advance.

Yep, have a service manual and it looks very difficult. I know nothing of adjusting carbeurators, etc. So what are the chances of a newbie doing this? Or would I be better off having a qualified BD mechanic do it? I'm not afraid of learning and getting my hands dirty, but all I have are basic tools to take it apart and put it back together. Whatcha think, Kaptin?

It is really pretty simple:
* Follow your service manual and install the factory breather.
* Ride the bike and see if you can tell the difference in the way it runs.
* If no noticeable change, keep riding.
* If running bad follow the carb adjusting instructions in the tech. section and lean or richen it a bit.
* If you don't try the small things yourself you will always be paying and trusting others.

It really is one of the easier things to do.

Just my .02cents.

Heck ride down and I'll take the 15 mins to show you how to do it. :2thumbs:

Just follow the manual and put everything back on the way it shows.
Don't tinker with the carb.
After you put everything together I'm guessing it will probably be a little richer.
Take her out and ride her for 5 to 10 miles.
Check the plugs
Black.....Too rich needs to be leaner.
Light Brown...Perfect leave it alone.
Whitish....Too lean needs to be richer.

Once you know this then take it to a reputable mechanic in your area that knows how to tune an EVO and tell them what you have.
They will do a little tweaking and you'll be on your way.

its a pretty straight forward task, the enrichener lever should already be attached to the backing plate, insure its moving freely before installing the backing plate.Make sure the little notch in the lever fits around the enrichener valve stem properly as you put the backing plate on. Get your shims and spacers installed correctly around the 2 larger bolts, start each bolt but do not tighten, start remaining 3 screws, now tighten all down evenly. Install element and cover. Use a little blue lock-tite on the threads but dont over do it. I dont think you'll have to adjust anymore than idle speed and air fuel ratio on the carb which is super easy to do.
