Speedometer

Bike back from dealer. On ride home no speedometer. On key turn on it does the sweep, but no MPH when riding. I know where the wire is that connects under the center console, but where is the speedo sensor that it connects to. 2002 Pitbul

They did pull the CAM so is there something they could have not connected?

If its in the same spot on the older dog...It is located under your seat, in front of the starter, on top of the tranny.

Everything seems connected. The speedo does the sweep, but no speedometer when riding. Is it just broke, even though it does the sweep? I guess its possible for the sensor to go bad?

Could be low battery voltage...I have heard that if you aren't fully charged it will cause the speedo not to read.

I had the same problem. Sensor went bad all of the sudden. It's a easy fix for $35, that's what it cost.

Thanks. Ill order one tomorrow. does the sensor come of the adapter or do you have to order the complete part, wire and all?

Rhino, did they reprogram or flash your EHC?
My speedo was not working also until I had them reflash the EHC with the new software. With the new software your speedo will sweep once when you turn the key then once again sweep after you start.

If that does not work, i know it sounds crazy, but it happened to me twice. When your battery starts to take a shit...you turn on the key, the speedo needle does it's thing and the bike starts. But when you start to ride the tach works but no speedo. The problem is when you have a semi weak battery, and when you hit the starter button, it takes all the juice to start the motor and the speedo looses it's mind due to not enough power to keep it thinking. I replace two speedo's until i figured it out. I put a new battery in and everything is :loony: great. Just an FYI

agreed - I had the same problem until I got rid of the EHC. when it used to happen to me I just shut the engine off and restart and that usually sorted it.

Went to pull the old speed sensor and it sits right under the starter. I can not get any tool on it to take it out. What size is the allen hole. I guess I will cut on down to see if I can get it in the hole, so to speak, without pulling the starter.

It's just an allen. Use the singles and slowly go at it. Don't try the multis or T handles they won't fit.

I too had this prob. i would start the bike, sometimes the speedo worked sometimes it wouldnt. Took it to the shop and they said it was battery voltage and that BDM specs out 12.9 vdc float voltage - my battery is about 12.4 vdc..I cant imagine that .5 vdc is the prob - but it worked coming home. So, I am buying a battery tender - there may be a mass buy goin gon here, havent looked but would be worth it.
Anyway, I asked about eht EHC and they told me the 2007 early models dont have the flashable and that late 2007 do...I fall in the early 2007. Great, my luck!

Well, I was finally able to get a allen wrench on the speed sensor and remove the sensor. My new one from Ebay arrived yesterday, however, it only has a wire that is about 8 inches long and mine (2002 Pitbul) needs one about 24 inches. one with a wire that will connect up under the console. Guess I could splice or just make a harnes. So, as I am pulling the console off and I see the bundle of wires, I pick up the one for the speedo and the connection was UNPLUGGED. Look like it was plugged, but infact it was not. But alteast I have an extra sensor for when I need it. Only $35 from Bigdogpartskingpin.

Shame on you for not having your bike on life support! :D
Well documented here as in the owners manual that the bike loses 2% per day so the reason all newer bikes come with the tender lead already installed.

As for the EHC I would say your dealership needs to go to school. If you have the USB plug on the EHC then it is flashable. If it's the Serial plug style (round) then it's not and they haven't used those since 06 to my knowledge.

What EHC plug style do you have? USB (square) or Serial (round)?

Hey problem solved and you learned something new. I would keep that sensor around because my bike only had 8k when the sensor took a dump.
