Speedometer staying pegged out

Got a issue that started today with the speedometer. Went on a 60 mile trip. On the way back, the speedometer just pegged out at 120 mph while riding. When I stopped it would be at 90 and never return to zero. Turned if off and it stayed at 90 and when it swept it pegged out again. When I got home I checked the battery for tightness and wiggled the wiring. I pulled the speed senor and it has a large flat spot on it as though it has been shaved off. The Odometer is working too.

I removed the speedometer from the bracket and moved the wire and it went to zero. When I power the bike up, it pegs out on the reset button but on the zero side of it now. Turn the key on and it may sweep up to 25mph but then again pegs out on the reset button on the zero side.

The engine light and oil light glow dimly and have for a week or so. Started after I washed it one day. I checked the neutrual switch to be sure it was not wet grounding out. Help Please. I held the left turn signal and powered up. All the leds came on for 3 seconds and all went out. Just the orange power stays on the the green flashes, controller on.

The speedometer has stayed fogged up for months now.
The tachometer, back lights works fine as well as the turn signals, the speedometer needle just stays pegged out.The Odometer is working fine also.

Up early to go in to work. Checked it again and the same thing. It has been on the Battery Mind Tender all night like it is always when not riding.
Checking with the Fluke it shows 13.6 with the tender dis-connected. Was about 10 mph, I turned the key on and it sweep up to 25 and then it pegged out on the reset button on the zero side.
Turned the key off and shook my head.....

I recently had the same problem on my 2005 that has had the speedo replaced last year. Had to get it replaced again.

Took the bike out today after getting home from work. Speedometer is all over the place when the RPM's go up and pegged out the rest of the time. It actually started out right one time when I cranked it up but as soon as I took off it just totally freaked out.
Guess I need to call Big Dog and see what to do. I guess all the go to people are at Myrtle Beach nowadays....

Worth a try anyway. Can't image what the officer would say. Might tell you, yea, it's a Big Dog. Third one today the speedometer didn't work. Jason is at Showdogs truck. Need to stop in and see him. When you do tell him I need one too..

Went out to bike night at a local watering hole and on the way home I kept seeing blue light flashing from under the speedometer needle base. So I raised the RPM's and the needle would spin around like the girls head on the Exorcist. It appears the entire shaft is raising up and letting it spin around or the needle where it connects to the shaft has come apart. Has anyone removed the needle from the shaft or know how this assembly goes together?
Perhaps vibration has worked something loose here.

Well I pulled the unit out today and as soon as I turned it upside down the needle assembly fell out to the front glass and just laid over somewhat. Cannot figure out how to get the beauty ring off or get inside it any further. I sent BDM a email on where to send it too. I have not heard back from Jason but he probably is tied up with the big bash..... I just want to Fed Ex this to the factory and have them send me another one. If I was in Myrtle Beach in a couple of days, they could hand me one probably.....

Neil, the speedo is a sealed unit and thats how they get them from Autometer as I understand it. Definately need a new one!!

I won't say I did not try to screw the top off to no avail or see if it would pop off. Oh well, I emailed BDM but I will call them today too....
