Speedometer Off by 20 After High RPM Run out

Hey,
Seems like every time I take the Dog out, something quits. LOL Still a sweet bike.

Anyways, took the dog for a good run getting on the highway and noticed my speedo is off now. It's stuck at 20 MPH and seems to be consistenly off by 20 through different speeds.

Any suggestions on this. I'm not sure how any speedo could work with this type of vibration.

check the speed sensor mounted in the tranny...... might need cleaning...

Check the search but I think you will find a lot of guys have had trouble with the older Big Dog speedometers. Check for any wires that may have shaken loose inside. Dakota offers a real nice exact fit replacement for the Dogs a lot have gone with. If you find you need to replace it you might want to take a look at the Dakota. I have an 03 and had the sensor go out once. Other than that it has been smooth sailing. The great thing about the whole situation is, is that if infact you do have an issue and need to replace the speedo you can get whatever the hell you want man!

I replaced the Speedo on my 2004 and it is off about 10 miles an hour. I am just trying to find out who to calibrate the Speedo. I wish someone would give me some hintson how to calibrate the speedo. I don't think I will be able to talk my way out of a ticket on this ridgeback,, .

You can reset the pulse settings but I don’t remember how. There is a how too somewhere on this site. I think you hold the button down on your speedo as you turn your key on to enter the pulse mode. Then after that im not sure.

Ahhhh. Here is the post.

2003 Pitbull should have a pulse count of 101,000. To calibrate do what you are doing. When you push the button for the second time and the needle moves to 60 ride the bike for two miles and stop, then push the button again. At that point the needle should move back to zero, and show the pulse count before the speedometer resets. As you are riding you will see the pulse count in the odometer, do not be alarmed if you see it go to 202000, when you push the button at the end of the 2 miles it will show half the value that you accumulated.
