any ideas what the cause is???:bang:

Does it do sweep when the key is first turn on and then after it starts does it do another sweep up to the mid range or so? If not, may want to have it checked by dealer and possibly see if it needs to get the program flashed for the upgrade. You will need to make sure that you have the newer EHC, the one with the USB port for hook-ups though.
Also let it do the first sweep before hitting the start button!

it does not sweep. it basically is dead except for the tach it still works which is weird. If it is a bad ground or bad speedo then how does the tach still work? and can I take the speedometer apart and look inside or are they sealed where you can not open them up? Gee I feel like a dumb blonde

The tach and speedo are separate items that live in a common housing.

As DogVet says, seperate items in same housing. You may want to pull it off and check the connection to make sure something didn't break or come loose.
Had this same thing happen to me. Turned out the red positive power line had snapped at the board level. Tore down the assembly and re-soldered the connection. Probably vibration, the wire bundle connector into the speed assembly is not the best.:down:
This is not for the faint of heart as you have to tear in to a Speedo that was never made to be field repaired. I was way past any warrantee issues and like to experiment.:up:
