Wow, I haven't been on here in a while. Been busy with the new baby and all! Glad to be back anyway..

To my question.

My speedometer on my 06 Chopper is going through the self check just fine, but when I get on and ride it's pegging out and racking up the miles on my bike. I pulled the sensor and cleaned it and it's still doing it. I can turn the key on and not start the bike, when I roll the bike it jumps to 30 mph.
Battery is fully charged and just pulled off the tender, although I must admit it hasn't been on it in a while. I wasn't aware that you should always use it. I only used it in the winter.

New sensor needed?

Thanks in advance!

Also, I just wiped off the sensor to clean it. It is black colored, is that normal?

The sensor may be generating noise spikes in the signal wire to the speedo and causing the speedo to react as a higher speed. Could be a sensor getting weak or wiring problem.

I have not yet worked on a speed sensor on the BD trans but I do know that if the air gap is too large the sensor can get erratic pickup ticks (usually skips). Just a thought!

I just started my bike to look at my EHC lights and my ignition light is blinking. They tied together? Battery problem maybe?

Still on stock EHC btw

I have been having the same issue with my speedo on my 2001 Wolf. Got caught in the rain and made my scoot look like like a dirt bike, so I car washed it, (first time I ever did that) and to this point I thought something was just wet. For the past couple weeks its been running fine save for the speedo trouble. Today my scoot wouldnt start. It turns over just fine it just wont hit. So heres my question: Do I have an EHC / What is an EHC ?

My bike is doing something similar, it seems fine while I'm riding but when I get on the throttle hard the speed jumps about 30 mph faster than I am actually going. When I come to a stop the speedo stops at 30 mph and doesn't go back to 0. I have to turn the ignition off and then back on so it will reset itself. Any Ideas on where to start looking for the problem? Speedo itself or speed sensor going bad?

What is an EHC ?[/QUOTE] Gives me that sinking feeling in my gut,, I remember when I asked the same exact question after my scooter petered out on the interstate.

I don't know about the 2001 wolf , but after I asked the same question in here I found out where it was what is was and how to re wire it with the wire plus. Mine is a 2004 that had been left out in the weather before I got it. The speedo was full of water if that makes you feel any better. Since then I avoid water like the plague. I spend the winter cleaning it up as time allowed.

Someone with lots more knowledge on this will point you in the right direction in here.

My speedometer was jumping all over the place. Always irratic. Never been in the water. Replaced it with the new Medallion and haven't had a problem since. The needle is rock solid at whatever speed you are going.

Yes Sir ,, I remember asking that question , a sad moment in the life of the old dog, :(,,I also remember wireing up the wire plus with everyone's help in here ( Jake's instructions really helped too),, just yesterday I removed both wire plus modules and sent them back to wire plus to be checked out,, I suspect the one smoking to be the issue, hoping for that anyway not both of them,, I will in the time it is down wipe off/ polish every bit of it like I did before,, maybe the old dog just wanted some pampering so it started smoking to get my attention :D. Really stinking smoke too!!!

If you ever come through Tennessee let the knuclehead know,, being me:D

 will be my treat!
