What brand speedo can I buy that will work on my 03 Chopper. I just want one that is dependable and will not cause me a lot of grief mounting it! I am not sure how the whole calibration thing will play out also.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! This is the 3rd BD one, and I've had it.

I would love to bring it to Daytona this year and we're trying to get it ready now. Had to leave her home last year and take the HD!

Your only option is the Autometer you have. There have been a lot of factors in the failure of some of these speedo's. Weak batteries, dirty tranny sensors, grounded wires under the tank and vibration.

BD took care of the vibration by changing the mount on the newer types. You need to check and clean your sensor and check the wiring and maybe add shrink wrap like a lot of us have.

But the options are open if you want to change mounts, rewire it to match your wiring and whatever requirements the new would have. Dakota Digital like Iron Horse used (had more issues than BDM's Autometer) or anything else you find.

I will say BD through Autometer has about licked all the issues with the speedo's except maybe fogging. You just need to do a little research, figure out what is causing the issues with your speedo and fix/correct them as I stated above.

They've caused me a lot of frustration also as I've been through about 10 of them but my last one has been good for the last couple years.

Good luck,
Ray

I love the look of the Dakota Digital's but as Raywood stated they have issues as well. But man, they sure do look sharp!

I'm on my third speedometer, but this one seems to work good. A whole year and no problems.......except for the fogging.

My 02 Pitbull has the same issue with the speedo

My speedo will sweep 0-60 many times during a ride, It doesnt happen all the time, sometimes it works fine. But on longer rides of an hour or more it will go from working properly to sweeping back and forth to just reading incorrectly, Like doing 75mph in a 60mph zone while the speedo says you are going 50 LOL.
Not good, I cleaned the sensor and checked the wiring and grounds etc. but found nothing I can point to and say this is the problem. Funny thing is when I contacted someone at BDM they said they werent aware of any on going speedo issues?
