Speedo temp malfunction

Had some decent weather (60s) today so I took the dog out for a little stroll. About 2 blocks away I noticed my speedo was dead. The tach, signals, etc. all worked fine - just the speedo was out. I pulled over and turned the bike off and took the key out. Started her back up and speedo was working again when I pulled out. A crazy glitch or something loose I should check up on? Thx.

I have the same issue; same bike, bike is in the shop getting new speedo with mods. Service provider stated this was common, not sure why there was no recall. But it is covered.

The only time my speedo ever did that was when I didn't wait for it to sweep before I hit start.

I shut it off, let the speedo do the sweep, and it worked fine.

Mine did it before needing a battery. Replaced battery and then found out voltage reg was bad as well. No problems since replacing both...that was spring of '08. Keep mine hooked to tender when not riding.

MIne has done it a few times,it's just the battery being a little low. If you keep the battery hot it won't do that. this is just my expierence with it.

This all makes sense cause it had been fairly cold (30s) the last few weeks. I have the battery on the tickler, but the I can definitely tell the engine takes a few more revolutions to start up than summer time. It makes sense the heavier load combined with the cold weather is causing stress on the electrical system... For now I'll just write it off as that. If it becomes a regular event, I'll change up the battery.

Ps: my speedo doesn't do the double sweep i later read about here which is a supposed fix. (Really a patch, as I'd imagine the fix would be not to boot up the speedo until after the bike is running?)
