Speedo Problems

Yes, I see that number, like 43434. Going to pull sensor. Thanks for the info!

The speedo could be fine and the sender or wires could be the problem. When you power ON you should see the calibration number "4xxxx"? in the odometer window and the needle should swing as a RESET. Some program updated EHC's will RESET the speedo again (needle sweep) when you press the START button.

Problem Solved

Well, after going thru a number of ideas, I borrowed a Dakota Digital Speedometer and it worked. So, the problem was in the speedo itself. All the wires I could see were not broken, so at least now I know I need a new speedo.

Thanks again for all the ideas given here.

If you take speedo apart most likely you will find the broken wires right at the circuit board, there are several great how to's on here just on this. but you have to take apart. I fixed mine years ago and no problems since.

I know Autometer made my speedo, I once talked to an Autometer technician trying to get the rubber boot for the odometer reset. He verified my speedo was in fact manufactured by them but they no longer supported them and I was SOL. He wouldn't even tell me who manufactured the rubber boot for them.

Check your battery connections -- vibration will loosen them and cause all kinds of issues. When you have the battery bolts loosened spray everything with an aerosol electrical contact cleaner before re-tightening.

I have a fairly new speedo for an 04 pitbull. I would recommend a Dakota over the auto meter brand! If you would like it let me know and I will work on a price. I was planning on keeping it as a spare.

Paul I need that speedometer you have so bad. In 03 I rode my sporty up to Milwaukee for Harley Davidson's 100th. I made it to the event and on the way back to my hotel I was struck head on by a repeat DWI Offender who crossed over into my lane of traffic. I never knew what hit me and was not expected to live? I suffered many traumatic injuries to the left side of my body with the worst being the loss of my left leg just below the knee. The coward who hit me had nothing and committed suicide not long after the wreck leaving me responsible for all of my medical care from the wreck and for the rest of my life. Needless to say the hospitals and everyone else involved took all of my insurance money so there was no big payoff for me. The life I had worked so hard for was gone in a flash and now I am totally and permanently disabled because of the wreck. Anyway, was not expected to ever walk or get out of a wheelchair. Well, I took my retirement out because it was considered an asset and keeping me from getting help with my medical care. I took what I got and paid off a lot of bills, but made up my mind that they were not going to get it all and kept enough to to get my Pitbull not even knowing if I would ever be able to ride it. I knew I would be happy just being able pulling her out from time to time and rattle my neighbor's windows with her. It took about six months of research on the Internet finding out what I needed to do to maybe some day riding her. I bought a Pingle Push Button Shifter and had my mechanic put it on. They got it done in time for me to make my first ride on the seventh year anniversary of my wreck. It was heaven feeling the wind upon my face once again.

I noticed some condasation in my speedometer and should of delt with it when I first noticed it which was so bad I could not even see the speedometer. I finally took it out to check it out and the rubber "O" ring that goes behind it was bad. It was hell trying to find a replacement. I got it fixed, but my LED odometer no longer works.i have called and searched all over the US for one with no luck. Please give me a price I can afford and I will get it from you. You are welcome to call me 573-228-9019. Thank you.,

I took the speedo out of the housing , but how do I take the speedo head itself apart? I can see a broken wire inside. How does the chrome trim ring come off

Its crimped onto the housing, I took mine apart by prying the metal ring up until it releases the housing. Its not pretty.
Or make a bigger hole in the back to make the repair
