My speedo on my 2000 wolf stopped working the other night, then the engine misfired twice. The engine ran fine after that but I was only 5 min from home. By the time i got home the speedo was working. Just downloaded wiring manual for ehc. Didn't know if any one else had this happen and could make this troubleshoot easier. Thanks Jim

Jim,

I'm not familiar with a 2000 but on a late model dog there was a recent instance that the ignition key switch went bad and caused a similar effect.

The post was just recent in the Technical forum.

Broken wire in handlebar control board, cause of ignition cutting out?
I'm riding my friend's 2005 Chopper today, and out of the blue his ignition starts cutting out. It's totally random, ignition goes dead with no warning. His tach will flash when it happens, but this may not mean anything since his speedo is totally screwed. All I need to do is hit the run button and the bike will fire back up every time. No need to cycle the key or anything. I opened up his right side control, and found that a wire connected to the control board was broken and hanging. There are actually two wires here, one is still connected but just barely. The other has broken loose. What do you guys think? Here is a pic:

Thanks BigDogBro1 just bought the bike a few weeks ago. I noticed the wires behind the ignition switch were crimped together kinda shady. Gonna fix that and see what happens. Hopefully this fixes that. Ran good all night till then speedo quit and engine just sounded like one cylinder missed twice ,flame out of the tailpipe, ran good till i got home.

Wolf,
do you think the two issues were related? Check your speedo connection under your dash. I would troubleshoot as if they were two separate issues and see if they 'meet in the middle' so to speak.

also check the 'suspect' wiring behind your coil mount against your diagram to ensure its legit.

Don't really know LDO wouldn't think they were related but both happen real close in time to each other. But the bike was running fine after that, even with the speedo not working. I am also thinking they are 2 separate issues. Thanks Jim
