Speedo not working 03 mastiff

Looking for some advice:
Have an 03 mastiff, got it wet in a little rain in flagstaff, az.
Now I noticed my speedo is fluttering, meaning sometimes it will read the correct speed and other times it will only read 20-35mph when i'm doing 65mph. I checked connectors at speedo and speedo sensor under tank by ehc. Removed speedo sensor at tranny and cleaned off with a towel. But still works intermeditly. Now I noticed my mileage is not tracking the right miles either. The light works fine on the speedo. Do you guys think I should replace the sensor or the speedo guage itself? I've been unemployed for most of the year so I don't want to spend money on just a crap shoot.

Thanks,
Roedog

Older model speedometers suffered from weak wire connections inside the speedo. There is a "how to" in that section on pulling it apart and inspecting the wires and resoldering if needed. When you put it all back together fill all the connections with die-electric grease as an added measure to displace water.

Raywood,

I did a search on speedos and cannot find anything on taking it apart and checking the wiring? If you know where to locate it please let me know.

Thanks,

I don't think these autometer speedos come apart??
I tried turning the front chrome part, but it doesn't pudge.
Afraid I will snap my reset push button off.
Well guess I will look into buying a new speedo guage, didn't want to. Now I have to get title changed to say odometer reading is not correct, #%$&!!! New speedo will take 2-weeks to get from BDM i'm sure, gotta love that. Sometimes I wish I had an HD...
