Speedo issues

My speedo has been acting wierd since I got it a few months ago. The tach lights switch back and forth from bright to dim at random making it difficult to see in the day light. Occasionally the tripometer will not come on and that part of the display will stay dead for the entire ride. Sometimes it will come back on after sitting for a while other times it won't come on till the next day. The other day while getting on I40 I accelerated past some traffic and as I hit the 100mph mark the speedo needle started backing down to the point where it said I was doing 40 when I was probably doing 80. When I come to a stop the needle drops all the way to the straight down position. When I start it agin it is back to normal but will start dropping off again after getting up over 80. Anybody experience this before? I do like the Medallion unit and wonder what it would take to make it fit my 04 chopper. Thanks.

Yep..... Ground wires..on back left next to battery....Lights,spedo, spedo light...all hooked together to the frame. This is what happen on my 03 chopper....vibration is a SOB on these dogs...

Sounds like multiple problems.

Tach lights dimming- Poor wire connection on annunciator board or the ambient light sensor solder joint or the sensor itself.

Trip meter- Sounds like a intermittent internal speedo solder joint connection.

Speedo needle- Erratic operation can be caused by poor connection at trans speedo sensor/dirty sensor or a loose internal speedo HEAD power/signal cable connection.

For the issue about the speedo going crazy after you hit 100 MPH, I believe there was a recall or TSB of some sort that addressed that problem. My '05 Chopper's speedo would do the same thing after going over 90 MPH.
