Speedo Fogging...just a thought

When I got to take my first ride of the season (Before the snow came again:angry:) my speedo fogged up like they like to do.

Maybe a dumb question. Are all the lights in the speedo housing LED?

As you may know LED lights run pretty cool.

How about putting a plain old light bulb in there to make a little heat to dry out the moisture?

Your speedo is a seperate unit from the other ring that contains the tach and instrument lights.

I think that for a temp fix the factory guys are pulling the seal plugs out of the speedos. But you will want to verify that.

Here is a pic of it all apart from when I chromed mine out.

Olmster from the BD factory removed the plug in mine and it cut down my fogging. He also said that they are going to release a membrane type plug in the near future.

You can see the programming plug here

I removed it

And sense I know BDM was replacing with a breathable plug I got creative. Used some felt pads

Stuck over the hole

Worked great when the bike fogged up on me a few weeks later.

No fog on the speedo

Thanks Al and Chris, It looks like it just needs to breathe.

Chris, Are those pads the kind they sell for chair legs to protect the floor from scratches?

Yeah more like the ones that you would put on the bottom of a lamp or something so it don't scratch the table.
