Speed Sensor Not Working Properly

My speedometer isn't working properly. it does light up and the needle moves but it doesn't read the speed. I have put a 5 speed transmission in it. Will this stop it from working properly? Since it originally had a baker 6 speed. If so how do I get the speedo to work?

Read this it may help you figure out how to calibrate the speedometer. I'm not sure about the change to 5 speed but I would guess it make a big difference. The manufacturer of your new trans may have the answer. Start on page 8-6

I got the bike while it wasn't working. Had to get new trans and put a battery in it at the same time. It has never worked since i've had it.

Try to calibrate it first you may get lucky.
