Sorry guys a couple more questions about bungs!!!

Ok, I think I might be getting this figured out but wanted to ask a few more things. First I am reading that Standard size bungs are 18 x 1.5 I have found a litttle selection on ebay not having much luck with local places. Does anyone know if that is the size bung we need the standard 18x1.5 ? Ok, let me add this again I have a 08 K-9 EFI. I just bought a set of Hooker troublemaker darkside pipes for the bike and i need to weld on the bungs. Or should I just call big dog and ask them if that is the right size bung?

Second, I noticed that some people offer them in stainless steel. Should I get Stainless steel or just regular steel. I'm thinking the stainless steel but don't know if that is best choice to weld on. Advantage or disadvantage of using one or the other? I'm thinking the stainless steel wouldn't rust therefor be the better choice.

Third, I noticed some have lips and some don't? Is one better than the other? Also some are round and some have six sides. The person said the six sides is easier to weld. Don't know much about welding though.

Or am I just over analyzing all of this. Sorry, i just really want to get these pipes on as soon as possible and don't want to make wrong choice and then have to wait longer. :spank: :loony: :bang:

Stainless will work but a little trickier to weld. Not sure about the sizes ... can't help ya there. Not sure about the placement of the sensors. Has no-one on here done this before? I would try to stay away from welding if at all possible but if you have to be sure to do it in an inconspicuous spot because it will mess up a little of the chrome around the area. Hope this helps and wish i could of more help to ya!

not sure about sizes but generally with O2 sensors you need to get them close to the ports and in the top half of the pipe (9 oclock to 3 oclock on the top half). Condensation can form in the bottom half.

I believe most all o2 sensors are a Bosch which are as you said a 18mm by 1.5 pitch. The easiest way would be to pull one of your sensors out and check across the thread od it should check at 18mm or .708 in inches. The ones with the lip on them are flush mounts they are made to go inside the pipe then weld around the lip. The straight ones are made to weld on top or slightly below the pipe.The six sides your talking about is the hex nut plug that goes inside the bung which doesn't matter to you because you wont be using the plugs at all because your sensors are going in there.

not a welder, but, doesn't it take a higher heat to weld s/s so thereby wouldn't you burn up the pipes if they are not s/s?

you set up welder to thickness of metal not type, thus the tig would give a better looking joint & more control of heat, but a mig would work, just make location & take to a local welding shop, if your not comfotable doing it

Yea, I'm not gong to do the welding myself. I know a couple of people that are good at welding with a mig welder.

What about the stainless steel bungs over regular steel bungs I asked. I ordered a pair of bungs but they don't say they are stainless steel. Since these are going to be welded on I am just worried a little bit about rust.

Thats why I said i would go with stainless myself. And find a welder that can TIG and you should be fine!
