Dude, I've been airbrushing for 25 years, and my real flames don't even look that good. Keep it up, you will only get better with practice.

This was my first attempt, ended up being way too yellow and too organized, as you can see really stuck in the hot rod flame mentality.

This is one I started last night, wanted to try blue, still gotta figure out the coloring and do some more work.

Thanks guys! Heres the blue one completed, gotta change some colors and add white highlights at the end next time. Also heres 2 more I did over the weekend, just messing around with different color combinations and layouts till I figure out what works and what doesn't. Green was the last one.

Those look really good, I think the best I've ever seen start with more red in the flames at the bottom and yellow up towards the top for realism. This is not criticism but a different way of putting them together which you seem to have the touch for. Keep goin

I'll try that out, I'm learning so always willing to take advice or try something out, gonna keep trying till I'm 100% happy with it, gonna paint flames all winter to keep me occupied and get the practice. I might even make up some more garage signs down the road once I get it nailed down and see if anyones interested on ebay.Never know!

And JeffM and Knotso, as long as you want flames on your house I'm in, lol.

Heres another try at the blue, much better than last attempt, I like this one, starting to get colors better. I also got ahold of a couple tanks, so I can start practicing on tanks, figure I'll just paint it, sand, and repeat to get some good practice.

I'm definitely not a painter but try one of the blue that isn't so busy. Make the flames a little wider and less of them and loose some of the holes. You can kick me in the nuts if you want to.

Ok so I got ahold of a couple old tanks, got a sporty tank that I plan on stretching so it is similar to the Chopper tank. But I figured before I do that, I'd make my first attempt at painting on a real tank before sanding it down. A lot tougher painting a tank than flat surface, but it came out not too bad, but need some work. Its a start!!!

:2thumbs: Thanks man, I appreciate it! Never think I'll ever get professional results but happy with what I've been able to do in the short time I've been using an airbrush. In any case I'm having fun trying!!!

Ok, I'll make this the last set of pictures, I'm sure we've all seen enough of my airbrush practicing, although thanks for all the positive encouragement. Heres another tank I just finished up, wanted to try a green one, not sure if I'll go blue or green on the Chopper. The green flames are almost the same color as my 72 Duster I sold before buying my Chopper. I have one other tank to paint and then I'll sand them all down, repaint them black and paint some more. Gonna have to invest in a good airbrush before doing anything serious, this cheapo Master G23 acts up all the time, what can I expect for under $30. Didn't want to buy a good one till I knew I'd be able to do anything decent, so for that, it was worth it.

I have several air brushes, used to paint equipment and cars boats etc, think I'll stick with caps...

Any recommendations on a decent airbrush? Dont want to spend a fortune as I'm not a professional, was thinking either Iwata Eclipse or Devilbiss Dagr, both gravity feedfeed dual action and under $150.
