He didn't replace anything. The bike broke down because apparently the clutches were loose inside (that's what the mechanic told me, the guy seems to be pretty honest) Just took apart the clutches, you know, the primary, etc... And replace the gaskets and other seals. I really don't know exactly but that job was about $400 plus he did an additional work for another $200, handle bar bushings, etc.

I have this bike since Sept 2007 and I love it but it's kicking my ass all these issues for a 2005 bike with just 1,600 miles and I just rode about 300 of those miles.

Do you guys think that I should take it to the HD dealer for this solenoid issue? Since this dealer is close to my house and the Big Dog dealer is over 2 hrs away.

Did you do as dog vet suggested? Remove the end cap from the solenoid and push solenoid to engage the starter? Worst case here is remove the starter see if oil is in there like dogvet said.

Walt, you know we have a pretty high opinion of our Big Dog dealer, and their lead mechanic - if anyone could fix it, he could, and I'd trust him to do ANY type of work on my K-9 - but of course, I understand the distance issue.

Unless they have to get into any detailed electrical issues, there should be some competent mechanics in your area who can deal with the mechanical issues - though I think I'd be more inclined to look for a custom shop than a generic Harley dealer - just my two-bits.

You might want to check out American Motorcycles on 112 S. 24th Street in Tacoma. I don't know anything about them, but their advertisement says, "Big Bear Choppers to Big Dog Motorcycles, we take care of them all," and they claim to have been there for 25 years.

Another idea - call Big Dog and ask them for recommendations in your area - they may be in negotiations for a new service center, if not a full blown dealer - who knows?

Just a coupla ideas....

American Motorcycles shop has been there for 25 years, new owners took over a few years back and improved the operation, lead Tech stayed on. They can fix you up.

No doubt, Dakotabos, no doubt - and a great analogy it is, too - somehow it felt downright sacreligious to even type that. :D
