NEVER heard of that happening before, but thankfully you guys made it to a safe stop! Scarey as hell!!!:2thumbs: However, NEITHER have I ever had a problem with BD taking care of an issue that was clearly their problem. And that includes whether in warranty or out.

Good luck!

Welded for 25 years, i'm with Gabriel. The base metal is weaker then the weld, if you know how to weld. You didn't say if the weld broke off the base metal due to lack of penetration, or if the weld it's self broke.

I know EXACTLY how you feel. I had the same thing happen to me on my 2002 Bulldog. We didn't hit any pot holes....we were just cruising down the road about 60mph and BAM, smoke rolling etc; just as you described. I called Daytec Center and spoke to them about it. I sent them pics and they agreed to fix it free of charge. They stripped the parts, rewelded and powdered coated it. I just had to pay shipping there and back. I did notice that they had added additional braces between the "Arms" and the shock mount was of a different design than the one that broke. It was the weld itself that broke...not the swing arm and not the mount. You can see pics of them both here...http://www.bigdogbiker.com/forums/technical/22060-broken-shock-mount.html
