SISSY BAR

I thought my experience of adding a sissy bar may be of interest. I thought this was going to be a $150 or so expense. Wrong.. I recently acquired a 2002 Mastiff. I learned that to add a sissy bar I need to replace the fender rails and buy the sissy bar. This comes in a package from BDM. Cost: $470.
Then, the luggage rack is another $200. I was blown away that I couldn't just bolt on a bar. What was BDM thinking in 2002?

It will arrive next week and I will install it then. I am concerned that to install this I need to drop the rear wheel. I will see. But it is necessary: with the bar and rack I can ride to work and carry the essential tools of bidness: a laptop.

It just surprised me that what I thought was simple turned out to be more complex and expensive. Oh well, it is still cheaper than airplanes, boats, women. And more interesting than golf...

It wasn't until late 06 models they began putting struts that were sissy bar ready. My set up without the luuggage rack was 600 and change. Seems like you saved some money.

It used to be said that the HD in Harley Davidson stood for "H"undred "D"ollars if you wanted to buy anything for their bikes.

You are learning that BD in Big Dog will have a new meaning as well......"B"ig "D"ollars.

The first time you pull up to a light this summer and some hot ass chic is checkin you out, you wont ever think about the cost again.

You bought something that stood out from the pack....but all great things come with a price.

the same thing they are thinking now, "If we make it proprietary, we can charge what ever we want within reason." I know how you feel Jerry, I bought my K9 just before they went to the struts for the sissy bars being standard, so I have to change the struts and all as well. its like $6?? for the sissy bar kit plus $2?? for the luggage rack and then if you wanted the sissy bar pad thats even more. :bang::bang::bang::bang:

Are you getting the quick detach system for it? If not, cancel your order if you can and find one that can.

That is a great option you will love.

Luggage racks/sissy bars on the prostreet bikes are nice for function, but we lose style points when out and about.

It wasn't till LATE 2006 that they went to all rear fender struts accepting bars. I had to do the same thing that you are doing. It sucks but do it and move on.

it was mid '07 when they did the change. shane and i both got screwed by maybe (3) months.

thinking more on this, shane and i bought our '07 model year in oct., '06 so the change over for the struts
as standard equipment would have been very early '07. SO i will have to admit that both Gasman and I are partly correct on this.

I am having a hell of a time finding one for my 2002 Pit Bull. Others have said I need to have one custom made. Any other suggestions on retro-fitting one???
