Would some of you guys that have the top loading sissy bar struts mind snapping a few pics from diferent angles for me and post them. I need em fairly close up. I also need to know if there is a bolt or screw that secures the bar in the hole. The reason I need this is I am going to fab sockets on my existing struts.:whoop: I already have a pretty good idea of how I think it will work but the pics would help me finalize my plan! Thanks in advance guys!

Here ya go

Be careful with the bolt though, make sure it will handle the pressure or your passenger may end up skidden on their butt.

Good Luck

Thanks Kapt! So is there a lip down in the hole that the bar sits on and the bolts pulls it down against? Thats the way it looks.

Avd, there are two different types of sissy bars. One has a tapered end and the other has a blunt end. Both top load into a recess that has a floor in it to stop the bar from going all the way through. From the bottom, there is a recess that has the other side of the floor for the sissy bar. The bolt fits into the recess and is counter-sunk into the strut. Hope that helps.

My struts on my K9 are NOTHING like Kaptains. I can't get pics today b/c of foul weather, but my entire strut is as wide as the area where the holes are. If ya go to the Big Dog dealer it's just like the ones on the bikes there.

I decided to show what the strut looks like on the '09 K9 for comparison to Kaptin's photos.

Maybe these will be helpful to you. If you plan to use a factory bar, remember that there are two different ends that plug into the strut. One is blunt cut(flat) and one is tapered.

I can easily see why BD did it. It is clearly a safety issue. Makes me seriously wonder why these weren't made a recall. My old lady ever falls off the back because of failed sissy bar mounts and I'm gonna own BD.
Wait a minute I don't know if thats a good thing or not lately......

Here's some "Far away" pics of my sissy bar struts with a 18" bar installed just for more reference.

Dont know what you have in mind but this might give you and idea or two. Seen similar homemade ones on a Big Dog a few yrs back in Myrtle. Didnt look all that bad with the bar in it. Not sure about when you cruise w/o the bar though.
