Does anyone know what size the set screws are on the factory sissy bar? I have tried 1/4-20 (way to small) and 5/16-18. The 5/16-18 was the right size but the wrong thread. Are they metric??????

Thanks in advance.

Keith,

I know I used the 5/16 allen on my sissy-bar today. I am going on a ride tomorrow and will be taking mine off, I will check the thread and get back with you tomorrow night if someone else smarter/quicker than me doesn't first.

I had to tap-out one end of my 12-inch sissy bar for an 07 bulldog. I used a 3/8 inch 16 threads/inch tap. Pre-drill with a 5/16 inch drill bit.

Keith, sorry no one has chimed in on your question. I don't know what size the set screws are as I never had your style of sissy bar. 05 and newer went to a bolt through the top of the struts vise your slip in.
I will tell you I doubt it's metric as the only metric bolt/nut on our bikes that I know of is the battery lugs.

Someone will chime in here for you.

Welcome to the site,

Thanks everyone - I found my misplaced set screws. They are a finer thread than 5/16-18. I would like to get some spares as I take the sissy bar on and off regularly.

Do you have the on line web site you got them from. Both of mine just broke.

They just broke. The sissy bar started vibrating and when I looked one of the bolts was gone. Maybe I over tighted them

Not sure - I bought mine used. I am assuming that it needs special struts. I callled a BDM dealer before I bought mine and they said that it would be close to $1300 for the Sissy Bar, Pad, passenger and Installation.

Mine takes all of 3 minutes to change out so I am assuming they have to put new struts on.
