Sissy Bar - leave it on or take it off when solo?

I think you are right. She may be the one in the pic with the phone stuck in her ear. As far as the bar, I left mine in with no load and it broke both bolts off. One came out easy and the other was a pia. Had to drill and tap. If they were tapered I think It would be better

Where did you guys all purchase your? I am guessing you have to purchase the struts separate to mount also? Thanks in advance,

Follow up to an earlier submission (6-6-14), I had the sheared off bolt removed from 12" sissy bar. I removed the luggage rack from it (bolt on luggage rack mount broke when removing) and remounted the 12" sissy bar. It has been on since late summer of 2014 & no issues. I think having the luggage rack on all the time with no passenger, luggage, roll or pressure against sissy bar with all vibration allowed to much torque on it which is why it sheared off. I keep an eye on it. Thinking about switching it out for the 18" sissy bar I also have. It is one of the ones with tapered end and collets for mounting. Don't know anything about them or if they are better or worse. Still haven't gotten a backrest pad for it, may use without one, if I switch out. Don't feel like taking off current one.
Like the look of a Big Dog with a sissy bar mounted. Gives it an old school look.

Where did you find the 50 caliber plugs. I have the standard BD flush mounting ones, tried putting them in & they turn as I tried to tighten bolt, so didn't work out.
Gives an interesting look to it.

They should have a notch for keepers so they don't spin, but Donna and Derrick have them in stock for just about n e big dog

i had a guy that works at a gun shop mill and tread the end of the cartridge. just hope i never get rear-ended.

The OEM plugs have a dowel pin in them to keep them from turning and to also locate them. If yours are spinning they are not standard BD or missing the dowel pins.

So I have the 18" sissy bar on my k-9 and after ever ride I always get a wabble in it and have to crank down on the bolts again. Especially if I have some luggage on it. Is this normal? Any fix anyone has figured out? Yes I put lock right on it as well.

Is your sissy bar flat or tapered where it goes into the receiver struts?

Tapered sissy bar require a collet. It's basically just fits between the taper and the strut and expands as you tighten the bolt.

You can just cut it of and run it flat. But if you have taper bar and no collets it will not fit right like you mentioned.
