ok....ok....ok....what's the trick to remove the bottom bolt of the plastic side cover? Top two unscrew right out. Bottom one just seems to spin in what looks like a rubber nut? hmmmm....

The bolts go into a rubber grommet that contains a nut. The rubber has torn and now the nut is free spinning.

pins

That's not a bolt its a solid piece of aluminium pin pushed in a gromet.
Just pull the 2 of them strait out.

Big Dog had a recall to replace the bolts with gromets and pins to have the plastic:flag::flag::flag: covers float due to cracking from the bolts being tight and the vibration.

Have a good one

Correct !

The 04 and 05's (not sure about other years) used a "well nut" system. When a well nut is spun (i.e. the nut is no longer secured so it is free spinning), you have to grab and hold the nut through the rubber grommet with some form of plier in order to unscrew the bolt. Google "well nut" and you will get a better idea.
