Side cover heat damage

Aay cure for exhaust heat damage to the adjacent side cover. 06 K-9 w/V & H 2-2 Big Shot w?heat shields. The damage is to the paint directly adjacent to the exhaust port. I am having it repaired and thinking about removing the heat shield wrapping the upper 6 inches of the pipe and re-installing the shield. Any known problems with this consideration? Anyone else experience this issue and have a tried /true solution?

I have the same issue, I think it's pretty common. i'm going to wrap the area with heat tape and then cover with heat shield. is this what you want to try.

That is my plan as well. Has anyone tried and and does it resolve the problem?

When I bought mine it had some paint damage by the rear exhaust also, I removed the heat shield and wrapped the entire pipe with the Titanium wrap (light brown) also did the front pipe . The minor damage is still the same size so I figure it is working.

Also use rubber gloves when applying to eliminate itching from the fibers.

I'm not so sure it's common.

I have the FSD and V&H for 10K and I was just looking at it Sunday . 1/2-3/4" spacing and no heat shield for the first 3-4". It's damn close to that plastic so not sure why some have problems others don't. I'm in Texas, I've seen my oil get to 260 in traffic, engine is hotter than hell.

I would think melting is cause more to an exhaust leak. Even if it's small. I replace my gaskets anytime I remove the exhaust. I use the old flat style and double them up.

Wrapping won't hurt as long as its just a few inches. Don't want to trap that heat too much will pass it back to your engine

I wrapped mine after paint job, so far so good.~1000 miles.

Original paint bubbled.

We wrapped our rear upper pipe seven years ago because the pipe is too close to the cover. We posted the info on this forum. 2007 Bulldog blistered RH battery cover. We wrapped about 6 to 7 inches down from the top turn in the pipe. No problems in all these years. The shields go back on over the wrap.
