Showa fork dust cone removal

Hi Guys ........ I'm struggling on how to remove the chrome conical dust shields from my late model KMW Chopper. They definitely don't unscrew from a thread ...... do they just pop out from an O ring groove ? I'm stuck the moment so any advice would be most gratefully received.

not saying you are not right, but, i would think they would unscrew just like the BDM before them. try using a rubber strap wrench, righty-tighty, lefty-loosey.

If ya don't have a strap wrench, maybe try it with rubber latex gloves to give you a better grip

Hi Guys ...... I can rotate both the dust cones by hand on each leg ..... clockwise and anticlockwise. They do not tighten or loosen at all. So either both of the cone threads are totally stripped, or they attach via another method (ie pop into a groove ). Because I'm sure you guys know exactly what you are talking about, and my scoot is a late model 2015/6, I am still at a bit of a loss.

Strange...maybe they used different forks on those then what they used earlier.

Raywood has the same KMW style bike as you. Hopefully he sees this and can chime in.

Ray is probably your best bet. but being able to turn it both ways does kinda tell me they are held in with an O-ring. is there no sign of a set screw?

If they don't unscrew or have a set screw. They are probably held in with orings. There may be some silicone on the orings to hold them down.

I just unscrewed mine this morning to clean and stuff with paper towel. Just screw off like the BDs. Sounds like you may have stripped the threads on the cap but not how you do that. Keep us updated

sounds like it's time to get hold of them and pull like hell while trying to unscrew them. may have to insert a couple wooden wedges to add upward pressure. good luck.

Hey guys. My thoughts of them being held in by an O ring were correct ..... and I now know why my forks need a rebuild after just a few hundred miles. There was NO, NONE, NADA, ...... not even a smear of fork oil in either leg !!
Could someone please tell me the quantity of 10w oil to use in each leg ? This is for a late model chopper.

Should be 10ounces per leg.

Also 30w not 10. You can try 20 if you want I thought it might make for a better ride but I thought 20 was too light the front end was bouncing, went back to 30.

You can get the 30w fork oil at your local Hardly dealer, ask for Screamin Eagle Heavy fork oil, Hardly's regular fork oil is 20w
