should I be concerned?

Just got back from a 1400 mile ride on the 2005 Mastiff. Probably close to 400 in the rain and cold. Before I went I had the wheel bearings changed out, new brake pads installed, head bearing cleaned and repacked with fall way set, and replaced my 2.5 year old still working cheap Wal-mart battery with a new one Deka just to be on the safe side. Changed out the headlight since I had a new one (the old was still good but bucket was marred up)

Bike has the PDM on it and Dakota Digital, 6 year old starter, original tranny, clutch, TP Rocker boxes, etc.

Not one problem whatsoever. Started every time, this included some mornings after sitting in the rain in the 30's. Rolled in light rain, heavy rain, fog, sunshine, rolled at 85 all day yesterday for 500 miles averaging 35 MPG over the hills of SE KY, SW VA, WV.

Bike is dirty as crap, but the week is looking good to get it all cleaned back up and polished.

Overall great ride and 05 BD did not let me down as it never had except one time on Rolling Thunder when I had the power harness short out due to chaffed wire.

May quit tomorrow, break the tranny, cltuch carrier, throw valves, PDM bite the bullet, starter give out or whatever, but then again may get plenty of miles and years of enjoyment with no major problems like many others have. Regardless, my 05 has done very good and very happy with it and still holding up fine for 7 years and over 30k.

Maybe luck, or maybe just keeping good maintence and keeping it pretty much as designed without major mods.

So I went and test road this. Usually pictures don't do a bike justice, but in this case I wish it looked half as good in person as it did in the pics. Rust, paint flaking off with rust under that, oil and grease where shouldn't have been. Speedo didn't work at all, clutch felt 10X harder to pull in than the one on my bike. And no matter what it always felt like I was lugging the motor unless it got to the top rpm range. Lots more I could go on about with it. Needless to say I was very upset with my first ride on a big dog. I can say the problems I saw with that bike was a problem all the bikes in that shop. Hopefully the next one I get to see isn't anything like that. I had such high hopes for that bike, and was very depressed when I saw that.

Sounds like it was more of Big POS than a Big Dog. Keep looking. When its right you'll know. Love my Pit!!

Yea I didn't see a single bike there I trusted to take around the block. My brother kept going on about how he just couldn't figure out how they stayed in business.

I'd say thats probably more a reflection on the previous knucklehead owners. Mine was in need of some TLC when I got it. Now that I've gone completly thru it when I painted it, I wouldn't hesitate to roll cross country any time. She's strong n reliable. Bobby's or Earl's would be a safe bet for sure. I' d buy either one sight unseen.

I would bet your right if I was a betting man. I would snatch up Bobby's in a heartbeat if/when I sell my Harley. So far the 2 people that wanted it really bad couldn't get approved for a loan. So maybe soon hopefully, and before Bobby's big dog gets sold :'(

Let me know soon. I have a guy that has a super nice harley that wants to trade. Cash talks though ;)
I just put a for sale sign on my bike and parked her at my office, already had one guy pull me over to ask me about her. I tried the online advertising but that's had no success so hopefully someone sees her and comes get her!
