Shinko 300 650ish mile review.

Since tires were brought up again in the last few days, I thought I would share my experience with the Shinko 300 after 650ish miles. So far it is wearing nicely, rides as I would expect it to, and appears to be using more surface area of the tire than the Avon did.

Notice how the scrubbed in portion of the tire goes almost to the edge.

As you can see on the original Avon, there is about an inch of unscrubbed rubber on each side. Now obviously this could be the result of the previous owner's riding style, but as of right now it appears more of the Shinko tire is seeing action than the Avon did. Don't get me wrong, I love the look of the Avons and the price is not that much more. Heck the Avon is part of what I fell in love with back in 2005 when I first found the Big Dog dealership. I just figured I'd give the Shinko a try and if I don't end up liking it, I only blew $185. So far however, I am very pleased and the tread pattern is pretty bad ass!

How many miles do you get out of a tire? I changed it at 7100 miles and probably could have waited but they were the original tires so at 10 years old I needed a little peace of mind.

I just changed my front tire and it was 12 years old! I’m on my third rear tire but I changed the first one because I thought it was wearing and after I looked at the second and third one I realized the first one still had a lot of tread left on it. Get about 7500 miles out of a rear tire and a lot more out of a front tire.

Wow! You guys get way more out of tires and gas than I do. Your previous owner did not seem to ride very hard at all. That is a bitch strip plain and simple. I am lucky to get 4500 out of a rear tire and my wear pattern is edge to edge. How you guys get over 30 mpg leave me baffled. I am lucky to get 32 mpg. I ride the freeway at 90+ and only hit 6th above 80 mpg. I will cruise the flats at 2500 rpm but not hills.

The mileage is all about acceleration pump I think. G Shorty throws an extra cup of gas on every hard acceleration also most of the bikes run fat rather than lean judging from jets most are using?

The shinko isn't as rounded as the Avon.

I don’t get close to 30 mpg. Mine is more like 25 mpg at the most.

650 miles, barely breaking it in, realistically I get about 4500 miles out of an Avon? On my other bikes I would eat about 8 to 9k out of my metzeler, but those don’t work on my k9 without sitting cock-eyed. But idk that I would try shinko, jmo.. but keep us posted when u actually start riding her a bit more

Yeah I am a super easy rider myself, but that's how I enjoy riding her. Rarely do I punch it. Just enough to clear its throat every now and again.

Here after today you can see I don’t mind leaning into the turns it’s hard to get a good pic when leaving and returning to a gravel driveway but the line is obvious on the right side(didn’t take a full on back shot) so not really wasting much tire

I was doing 10k on avons and metz when in NJ.
My last shinko I dont think I got that. But I did get about a year out of it.
I don't track the mileage as much as when I was in NJ.
I got 41mpg today out on a run (efi bike) at least the first part of the run -- didn't gas up when I got home.
