Shifting problem

My 2005 bulldog shifter will not return to center after the bike has been ridden awhile, you have to lift the shifter back up with your foot when downshifting or upshifting. The bike shifts fine when cold but after riding about 15 minutes the shifter sticks has anyone had this problem before or know how to fix issue. Oh and I have taken the shifter linkage apart and cleaned still same issue.

sounds like your heims need lubricating. Or shifter pawl adjustment but unlikely. Or the spring, but unlikely.

Over to the intro police!

Common problem, as Lee said check the heim joints at the ends of you shifter linkage. Sometimes you can lube them and that will help, but you should replace. Also check the lever where it attaches to the transmission output shaft, sometimes it will loosing up and work its way up against the inner primary cover and bind up.

both lee and two wheel are correct, and while you are at it, make sure the heim's are in line with each other. they tend to not work right if they are more than a few degrees off from each other.

I had this happen to me at the end of a long ride and it was both of the problems listed above the shifter linkage loosened up and the heims needed to be lubed and straight. After I did the fixes it was like brand new.

good reason to check your nuts occasionally. also a good reason to make sure the nuts on your bike are tight every once in a while.

Hiem joints, if lubricating them doesn't solve your problem, find you some that doesn't have the teflon bearings in them.
