Shifter rod

Okay, so I recently did a trade with a fellow member here on the forum. Traded him my stock controls for his 2.5" extended controls. I installed the controls on my bike and the shift controls sit lower then my brake controls and with it adjusted all the way in, I have to slam it and grind it to get to 1st gear. Now him, he has a real issue, even with it fully adjusted all the way out it isn't long enough. He has an 04 chopper and I have a 07 k9.. I'm guessing there is a big difference on shifter rod length for pre 05 and 05 and up bikes... Shift.jpg Shift2.jpg

I mean I know we don't have the same trannys in our bikes and his is LHD and mine is THE, but I thought for sure that they were the same as far as foot controls.. lol

This will be interesting. I am surprised that they even bolted on the frame. Good luck!

Can we see pics of the other bike?

The bolt up was identical on my end, the big difference I noticed is that my shifter control sat about an inch or so lower then my brake. I didn't think to look into if it would fit or not. Just assumed we had the same thing. Then when he was telling me what problems he had I asked what year his bike was and it all made sense.. but yes I'm curious to find out what's what.. I know Eric has both set ups and was waiting for him to hit me back last night.. never did.. lol. I was thinking he would probably be able to give some measurements and so on. Start there

Maybe this will help a little, I just went out to the garage and the stock 07 K9 is 12 3/4" and the 05 Bulldog is 16 3/8" with the BD extention kit. I could not locate the stock Bulldog rod but I know it was shorter.

Yeah I think that's what we might end up doing.. this one for my extended controls is about 16 3/8 And the factory one was right under 13.. 20170723_091836.jpg 20170716_130138.jpg

And Eric just measured both of his and they r only 15 1/4 long.. we're there three options for lengths on forward controls?

15 1/4" on both with 2.5" extensions. My 04 Heim joints are backed out quite far and the 07 isn't. 2004 bike shpuld have the longer rod.

As mentioned Kel, the rod you got now will work for him. Should ship it back and find you a new one at 15-1/4"

But why is there three different size rods if their were only two options.. this is where I'm loosing it.. my controls aren't even now and finding first isn't happening at a stand still and this poor guy can't even get his hooked up.. lol..

I know when I put extended controls on my BMC (not from BMC) I had to go after market and order a custom shift linkage that was th right length. Can't remember who I got it from -- will see if I can find it.

So.. something off about both of our set ups and I don't know what. But I will get to the bottom of it! Lol.. my shifter control bar is too long and makes my shifter sit about 1 to 2 inches lower then my brake and he is shy about 2 inches.. lol.. but if I swap back I'll be way too short..20170723_111126.jpg
