If you can do it save your money and do it yourself!!!! Keep all receipts of purchases like oil and filter and other things you buy for warranty purpose!!!!!

I like the idea of DIY fluid/filter/lube changes. :2thumbs: That way somebody else won't scratch or screw-up your bike!

BDM dealers are few and far between anyway, and when you do go to one and get your bike back screwed-up (it happened to me too...chrome scraped off pegs/exhaust from mechanic's hot rod "test ride" after being serviced!:bang::angry:)...why not DIY?

BUT...what about warranty, recall notices, etc? You almost have to go to a dealer for that...right?

I was told by my dealer to try and get the 500 mile service done for at least the computer download so there would be no hassle if a warranty claim needs filed. The download is done to see the RPM hits to prove to BDM that the motor was broken in properly and not hot-rodded during the first 500 miles. As for me, I do all my own services and did not get the download. Closest BD dealer is about 2.5 hours away and I never got the time to get my K-9 to them. So...I may or may not have an issue if there is any type of problem within the rest of my warranty period. Take your chances.

OH...and my dealer also told me that if there are any recalls or computer updates, the download will take care of getting updates.

I let the dealer do my 500 mile because my bike had to go in for a warranty issue. They refilled all my fluids but my clutch was not adjusted properly and I doubt they did anything else. I do my own services now. I'm not a wrencher but it's pretty easy if you have tools.
