Sensitive Accelerator Pump

Energy One

My bike is a 2007 Pitbull obviously a hard tail, the throttle is so sensitive that every little bump I hit causes the bike to seem like it's surging up and down, other than the little play that's in the cable any movement whatsoever of the throttle causes the RPMs to go up and down; smooth road ----smooth throttle.

Any suggestions on how I can take some of this sensitivity out....THANKS in advance

One thing that works for me is to lighten up the grip on the throttle. When you hold it too tight it seems like your bumping the throttle with every little jolt. Just loosen up a bit n see if that helps. Hardtails can be a bitch sometimes.

Might be your jetting. Mine surged around 35 mph. If you have a pipe or air cleaner on it and never rejetted it could be the problem. The jetting could still be off. They are jetted from the factory and different altitudes can affect the performance. You are close to sea level I take it.

:flag:Rick it sounds like you don't have enough free play in your throtte cables. Does it rev up the rpms when you turn? If so, cables aren't loose enough.:2thumbs:

Thanks for the suggestions, it does not increase in RPM when turning, the jets are 32 / 76, Hooker Header exhaust, stock air cleaner...I may just need to lighten the grip pressure as suggested, some bumps, in order to save the back, you have to pull yourself up, no choice but to hold tight:lol:

I had the same problem and I called S&S and they said it was probably too rich and when more air was introduced by opening the throtle plate the engine immediately surges. Just for fun turn your mixture screw clockwise 1/4 to 1/2 a turn. Worked for me.

I'd put a 31 intermediate in there. Then readjust your idle screw and accelerator pump. Bet your running rich. Your closer to sea level than I am. On my 111 I am 31/76. .040 air bleed and about 1 5/8 out on my idle screw. But, I have pipe and spike cleaner too
