Seeking advice on cleaning and polishing

What I've done on my bikes up until now to clean the painted components (gas tank and fenders) was use either 50/50 detergent/water or windex.
What are you guys using? Recommendations on wax?
I need something that will preferable add a layer of protection to the paint in addition to just cleaning it, if possible.

And for the chrome components I've used Blue Magic metal polish and am satisfied with the results.
I am curious to know if there's an applicator that can get that polish onto the wheels with some firmness, that's the biggest struggle is reaching in there with a rag to wipe the polish on?

Now that I got a new bike and the paint/chrome is really nice IMO I'd like to preserve it.

I keep the bike under a cover but sometimes I get pulled away and the bike can be exposed to the hot sun for a couple hours. How damaging is that?

Also, do you ever rinse your bike down with a hose? The polish is good at separating dirt and dust but I almost feel as though I need that water pressure to rinse it all away...

Yep, for the money, mothers is hard to beat. For washing my bike, if I want to get it really clean, I use dawn dish detergent. Brand name car washes like Meguires are good, but they are designed not to strip wax, so they aren't real strong. A good wash with dawn will get rid of bugs and tar, then a coat of wax, and it will sparkle! Between waxes, then something like Meguires is good.

Like has been said...everyone has their own formula that works for them. I like the S100 products, they work well for me, my bike always looks good so that is what matters to me. I haven't had any sun problems using the S100 D+W

After I buffed the paint with foam pad buffer I’ve used mothers cmx put a deep shine on paint mother’s canuba wax on the chrome

Like they say, everyone has different stuff to use. I find the most important thing is use a lot of elbow grease and just stay on top of it. Wipe it down as much as possible and the bike will look great every time. Oh by the way I have hosed my bike down after being caught in rain storms to get the heavy shit off.

Just pay someone else to do it. Its definitely a headache and overrated. A dirty bike can run just as good as a clean one. lol.Reminds me of a friend of mine. Hes died now but I knew a man named Steve (aka Birdman). I met him years ago in Lake Lure NC, he was the owner operator of a lake side bar/ grill called Margarita grill. He was driving up on an old pan head touring bike late 70's model carrying 15, 20 lb bags of ice because his ice machine was broke. Not only was there ice everywhere on his bike, but between the handbars was another bar with a solid white bird on it. It wasn't chained or strapped on it was standing there on its own free will right behind a windshield. the birds name is Sabrina (side note she has her own facebook page Sabrina the riding bird or something like that.) but after the ice was removed I noticed this guys bike was filthy. Covered in bird shit. And I remember someone yelling that is he washed his bike and removed the bird shit the bike would come apart. I got to be friends with steve, even was invited to his wedding. They called his bike the beast. Steve didn't own a car, he rode that bike everywhere alone with Sabrina. I later found out his bike had over 150, 000 miles on it. And I remember on his wedding day his wife gave him a new motorcycle, 2004 road king, the following week he washed the beast for the first time in 17 years. 2 days later the motor blew. True story Steve the Birdman was a local legend. He was well known in the Carolinas, Tenn, Ga, pretty much east coast. Only man I knew to wear a kilt and ride in one too year round.

Moral of my story just leave the shit alone....

I believe the cherry wax offers a bit more for UV protection, not 100% on the differences but a show car guy suggested it to me. My local speed shop carries the full CG line.
