Scott, are the suction cups on these seats, like the solo and the 2-up really needed. I have had no problems with my solo seat with no paint killing suction devices. I am getting a 2 up seat this week and I just want to build it up in the back so it sits flush with no suction cups. I don't see why they are there the seat is secure without them when you are sitting on them and when your not, you do not need them either. What am I missing that these cups are doing that makes them a "must have" item?

Thanks, "T"

Even though the cups will still leave a mark, at least they did on mine, I think they are better than having the carpet rub against it.

Thanks for your answer, so far I have no cup marks or carpet damage. (do you think that the cups are there to protect the bike from the carpet) I started by trying to put on just the ""large" cups, (the extra large are worse) but they made no contact and it has been no problem-now I have a 2 up seat to get done. I think that if a "softer" material were used (just in the spot on the back where the cups go (there are indentations) there would be no problem with the carpet.

BTW, I was trying to contact you to do my solo seat before I went local but I could not get in touch with you. It took a couple of times but they finally got it right, but it took a while.

Thanks again, "T"

Couldn't get ahold of me, hmmm. I've got PM's going back to January. Wonder what happened. Got any pics of the new seat?

Ok just to warn you Sat my hard tail shovel I had the same carpet on the bottom of the seat. Well my smart ass decided to pull the suction cups off. With nothing "sticking" them to the fender it allows the carpet to rub the paint from all the vibration. I really think my dog vibrates just about as much as that old shovel.

If I can locate my pictures I will upload them for you.

I was e-mailing you at your address, we exchanged several e-mails about my seat-then I wrote several but did not hear back from you. I had a box and everything. I got it done with the 3/4 pack like you said, plus memory foam finished in "Ostrich" black- and it took one "do over" of a completely botched job (the guy let his helper do it)-but the next time he got it right. The whole affair took a month, but he finally got the paulding high into the back of the seat so that the majority of it was directly in line with my "ass bone" which is where I have the pain from three back surgeries years ago. I will go out there and take a couple of photos and post them. I took the seat off to check about the carpet contact. Well without the suction cups the back of the seat barely even makes contact as the weight is moved forward into the "groove" the smaller cups I had put on (which are a much smoother than others) don't even touch the fender all.

Thanks "T"

Well all I can say is I only have 1ooo miles on it, but in that time what you describe has not happened at all so far. I have "large cups" as opposed to "Extra Large" but even they do not contact with the fendor, I am not saying this is a solution I am merely posting what my experience had been thus far. The damage with the suction cups are absolute and every time, so they are not a good answer either, perhaps a "softer" material over that "contact" area?

Seatmaker here is a photo of the final version, after a lot of hassle and they still did not get the back of the seat right, but it was good enough and in the end he worked hard to get it right, I also had the seat pad and the sissy pad done as well. "T"

If you guys will wax the rear fender AND the suction cups (and wipe perfectly clean) before installation, you will not have any damage from the suction cups.

The only way I can figure that the carpet is not damaging the rear fender is that you trailer the bike everywhere. Even then, dust from the trailering will get in the carpet and act as an abrasive...

I really am stumped here because I figured with the vibration even with the softest material over time is would rub, All I can suggest if it is working for you go for it! Mine only had small suction cup marks where I allowed dirt under one and from the vibration it put marks into the clear coat :bang:. It was my own fault though. If you can remove the cups all together and it doesn't cause rub marks from the carpet please post up what material you used.

The bike gets "trailered" no where, and never has been, I ride it. You can read hundreds of horror stories about the "suction cups". Do you think that the suction cups are there to protect the bike from the carpet? I am trying to find out why the are necessary, it is not to hold the seat on, your sitting on it?

Well at least with the cups you don't have to "wonder" weather or not you are going to have paint damaging marks or not-you will, its only a matter of degree. Only a very few people claim differently, at least that I have seen. What function do the suction cups preform? That is my question?
