I have been running into so many problems getting my bike to run correctly. I have a 2008 Big Bear Chopper with a 100” S&S EFI motor. It does have the VFI module in the back of the bike. I bought it with the factory intake on it, but it had V&H Large Diameter pipes on the bike. The dealer told me they loaded something into the bike, or tuned it somehow, but they have gone out of business and don’t remember what they had done. It ran fine until I put a new intake on it from D&M. Now it hesitates and wants to die sometimes at low RPM upon starting from a stop, but seems to get a little better upon driving at speed, but still a little bit off. I was told the bike should re-learn itself and run fine, but right now it’s not. I know BBC locked the ECU’s/VFI from factory, but if they did then I don’t know how the dealer I got the bike from was able to do anything to it. I have heard I should check the plugs and they may have gotten fouled upon the new intake switch, some say ride it for a while and let it re-learn. I have put about 35mi on the bike, maybe, since the intake was put on. I have heard its running leaner, I just am not sure in which direction to go. I know S&S has a pro-tuner 2 software which is free and can tune the bike that way, but I can’t if they ECU is locked. Any help you can offer is GREATLY appreciated!!

Could use an intro. It might help. Also call S&S as it must be programmable with the right software

Who are you? What should we call you? Where do you come from? Don't answer here. Make a post on the introduction section. Now, for your question. I don't have one personally, but many members have experienced similar issues when they modified their bikes with a single spike filter. It just doesn't seem to let enough air flow to the carb. Some have been able to turn them verticle and correct their problems. Others trashed it and went back to the orignal filter or purchased the S&S duel runner (or some other brand of duel spike/cone filter intake) and that solved their problems. Your Big Bear may be smart but it can't re-learn when it's just not getting enough air.

It will relearn but you have to ride it farther than 35 miles...Then you'll need to a merge the files. I'd look at the module and figure out if it's a serial port (nine pin connector) or USB port (mini USB connector) then connect up to it and see if you can make any changes. You'll also need the Pro Tune software from S&S it's free on their website.

If your hell bent on keeping the D&M I'd find me a S&S Tuner in your area.
