Well just got my S&S IST ECM for my 2002. Had no ideas it was that thick (almost an inch). So far have not found a location that it will fit. I know about Lee and HDLarry;s setup and install. Anybody else out there with something different?? Looking at maybe a special adapter to mount outside the battery box. Between the battery box and the rear wheel fender.

I thought 2002 models had the 107 and just wondering how the IST is gonna work for you. I thought the IST was built for the 117s with the crank, knock, and heat sensor? Probably don't know what I'm talking about, but always willing to learn.

QUOTE=lee;127423]What do you mean by a special adaptor?[/QUOTE]

It doesnt match the two bolts that are there. So, get a piece of meter, drill 4 holes. 2 for the ECM and 2 to match the 2 holes/bolts from the battery box. Pics later. It will fit, any issues with it back there?? between the rear tire fender and the back of the battery box.

Nope what? Please explain so I can learn.

Thanks, Shovelcowboy:confused:
See above. Actually the kit is the same except for the Cam versus the Crank sensor setup. 117 requires knock, temp, MAP. It already has the crank. 107 requires knock, temp, MAP and the S&S CAM position sensor. See S&S Instruction 51-1156 for more details.

Here is a better pic. You can see one of the bolts and nut. Behind the battery and forward of the rear fender.

if it will fit there, including room to plug in the harness, which is big, and route the cables, of which there are many, then the only obvious issue for me is that it might be a bit exposed to the elements.

Why can't you put it where I did?

If I remember correctly, yours is under the battery box. I have the same problem as you. Not enougth room, would have to raise it like you did and it is just as exposed. No side covers on 2002. Not ruling it out, what you did. Just thought that I had more room behind the battery, but man that ECM is FAT.

I know a guy that mounted a MSD ign. system under the tranny plate(bottom side of the bike). I think he did make some sort of bracket first. Flip that pitbull over and check it out.

Lots of good suggestions. I took the battery out this more, put it up on the jack just to see what I had to work with.

1. Will not fit under battery box like Lee. Mine is an 02 and the battery box and oil bag is the same piece. Unable to elevate it like he did.

2. Only place is behind the battery box, and not alot of room there. Probably 1/2 jnch to the rear fender. Make an abapter and see if it will work. Good Idea on the read fender. Probably would be eaiser to mount it their.

3. Under the tranny is a little scarry for me, but I will take a peek

Rhino, mount it on the rear fender right behind the tranny. You have plenty of room there and can snake the wire right throught the battery compartment into the harness. It's just like my bike.
