S&S dual induction vs. Spike

I had the D&M spike on my 07 Mastiff, I could never solve the issue of the bike "missing" around 75mph steady speed, re-jetted, dynoed, nothing seemed to work. I replaced it with the S&S dual runner, no problems since.

Some here on the forum have had similar problems like mine, others have not. There are quite a few posts on the issue, I would recommend you do a search.

Let's make it interesting s&s dual or whimmer dual? I've got the s&s but heard alot of good things about the whimmer I think that's the name....looks better I think and supposed to perform better...plus they might have the cone top

I have the D&M spike on my 06 Ridgeback, it's mounted vertical and the bike runs strong at all speeds. 90% of my riding is at 8,000 to 10,000 feet in the mountains.

I have the D&M Spike, had it installed horizontal first, and had issues with it. Bike would cough, and sputter at around 60 to 75 MPH, also my right knee seemed to cover the right side of it. I then had it turned up vertical, and never had any more issues since.

Like wise, it seems to run better on the vertical position for me too.

The S&S covers up to much of the front cylinder and head for me. I have a D&M no issues here.
You're right...never really paid attention to that until you mentioned it.

I guess it boils down to personal choice and trade-offs (like everything else in life)...looks, or function?

Mike,
If you are looking for a S&S Dual Runner, I may have one for sale that is like brand new. I say may because I haven't installed it yet to know if I like it. I got it in a deal with a set of pipes I bought and not sure if I want to keep it or go a different route. It has the red filters and is in perfect condition.

D&M spike 04 Ridgeback. Runs like crap in the horizontal position but no issues if mounted vertical. I like the looks of the vertical better anyway.

Ok You guys have me sold... I am going to turn my spike vertical to see if I get a performance difference. I"m probably losing power and don't even know it.

Well this video sold me on the S&S, just bought one from Biker's Dream Atlanta and funny enough it will be my very first mod to my brand new 09 Mastiff!! I am military deployed overseas right now but still going to look forward to bolting it on in just a couple of months!! After I ship my carb to DaVinci for the appropriate adjustments of course! :)

I will be curious to find out if it makes a difference for you as well. I will say that after I turned mine up vertical I did not really notice any performance increases, at least that I could tell. But I did not have any more issues with it coughing, and sputtering at 60 to 75 MPH. It just seemed to run right, and am very happy with it since turning it vertical.:2thumbs:

Have what may be a stupid question but here goes, the bike I just bought has the spike filter, are these reuseable, clean and oil or do you replace the element?
