I was told yesterday that my rear lights are not the same brightness(they are the same when you apply the brake or at idle). Seatmaker told me that both of the Bigdog bros are that way also hmm we all have 07 Bulldogs

The only time that they are suppose to be brighter is when the brakes are applied. When brakes are noy applied the are dimmer but both equally dim. One should not be brighter than the other. You may have a shaved wire somewhere in your wiring.

Have you pulled your led yet?

I haven't had a chance to check it out yet but here's my theory.

I have design experience using LEDs see IntelliDash- Remark Industries :: Performance Digital Gauges & Instrumentation

Super bright high intensity RED LED (T1 3/4) have smaller light emitting viewing angle cones. These RED LEDs could be a 15 degree VA cone. A 15 degree cone delivers higher intensity than a 30 degree cone. Mine look the same intensity when viewed 3ft behind my bike.

I think it's possible that the tailights are not equally tilted vertically causing the viewing angle to be out of range when you are following behind. Don't rule out a horizontal misalignment as well.

I want to initially check BDB2's taillight housings using a tilt angle gauge on the housing face after the bike is plum in the lift.

If the housings are identical then I will look at the circuit board mounting.

Easiest thing to do is adjust the taillight tilt until they seem the same intensity while viewed from 50ft back.

If it's not the above causing the difference then it's probably a current/voltage drop through the harness to the one side.

Let's face it, we're all a little dim in one area or another-

BDB1 that is what I was saying to him. THat I bet they are out of line. I was following him yesterday in the cage and never noticed a difference that couldn't be corrected by my position following behind him.

So the problem is crooked light housings?

That's cool.
The problem could just be that the rear TS lights are not mounted to the rear fender struts at the same pitch angle. One may shine in your eyes straight on but the other may be tilted up or down abit. They could also be angled in/out from each other as well. The fix could be just a simple TS light housing tilt adjustment at the strut attachment bolt. If that dosen't work then check that the LED circuit board is mounted flat inside and not pitched left or right.

I check both my front and rear using a simple 6" level. Just remove the lens cover and place the level against the housing and set to your liking.
