Running gas out overflow

Hey guys. Wanted to see if someone else had ran into this problem. I had gas running out of overflow hose after shutdown numerous times. Shut petcock off and flow stopped. Pulled float bowl and cleaned and no residue was present. Float was adjusted level with recessed surface. I adjusted float down to drop fuel level about 1/8 inch. Turned gas on and still ran out. I made a pressure test setup to go on fuel inlet and inlet seats and holds pressure without leaking. Put back on and fuel ran again. I had a big dog kickstand on that leaned the bike way to far over in my opinion so I put on an arlen ness that stood the bike up abit more. Fuel overflow stopped. After looking at the situation, heres my theory. Tell me what you think. Another bit of info is I put on a blem BDM kickstand that had the foot welded at the wrong angle so it wasnt brand new from factory! The float pivots from the back of the carb, I believe that the angle the bike was leaning would require to much fuel in the carb since only about 1/2 of the float would be covered while on stand and the bowl would overfill. On Holleys we used to have a problem with floats becoming saturated and not 'floating' as designed. Has anyone ever seen one of these floats do this? I definitely got some fuel in the cylinders but only once. I change my oil every 1500 miles so it will get a fresh one anyway this weekend. I believe the biggest part of my problem was simple geometry with the float hanging in its position compared to the severe bike angle lean on the kickstand.

Not sure sound like mybe you got it, oil change every 1500, wow since my bike is still in breakin peroid i change it @ 500 and then @ 1500 will do it agin @ 2500, just cause new engines wear more during first few thousand miles than any othet time, after 2500 will go to reg time changes, hope the stand fixes the problem...

I know I get alotta shit for changing my oil that much but I do it on all my vehicles n toys!! I look it as cheap insurance, my opinion! I use LE Monolec oil which was cloned by Red Line products. LE is Lubrication Engineers, cant buy it in stores and I go straight to the chemist/refiner for mine. Used it in sprint car and late model motors and rear ends for years as do most professional engine builders. Drops oil temps approx 20 degress. It aint a synthetic and it aint cheap but cheaper than a synthetic.

I have that problem on my friend's Bourget. Does it happen when you are riding or only on the kickstand? His bike sits very upright on the stand, almost straight up. I believe his float is saturated or somehow sticking, because it will randomly stick while riding, usually after going wide open, and the bike will stream gas down the street before stalling. A quick fix that I use is to shut off the petcock, then start the bike and run it till the carb empties and it stalls, then open the petcock. The fuel flooding into the carb will pop up the float and fix the problem, beats the hell out of taking the bowl off every time.

I've cleaned it several times. With all the other shit that goes wrong with his bike, this problem is minor! I've yet to look into a rebuild kit, he has a super G. Seems odd that Husker only has this issue when the bike is leaned over.

Yes I have cleaned the float valve seat and the needle valve and even did a pressure check on it equal to about 1/2 psi. They were both clean first time I took carb apart and no residue was present. I cleaned anyway. A kit from a big dog dealer for a G carb is $73 bucks and is called a master kit, comes with throttle shaft, butterfly and all of the other shit but no float. Figured if it was a master kit and it had a fricken throttle shaft it would have a float, NOT! I still think it had alot to do with the old kickstand and excessive lean. I mean this sucker scared the bejesus out of me and anyone else when it went over on the stand. Tomorrow I am installing a 600 cam and the Thunderheart ignition. WIll be back in carb for some jetting so I will reset float to specs and c what happens. Float thing is gonna make me not sleep tonight. Oh well, like the master kit, a float cant be more than what, $8,000 bucks separate can it:eek:

I wish I had more money.
I have the same problem sometimes. I have just gotten into the habbit of turning the cock off.

I can't think that the lean on the kickstand has anything to with it. You would think is has to be a float issue

Maybe the bike is just trying to tell you to get the carb Triple X'ed. Either way you slice it, then... the carb will be overhauled and ready to rock!!!

Gasman, I agree out the XXX. Like to have one and maybe if the economy turns around I can but for now I gotta keep the G. I have went thru the carb and all is well so I dont think just changing to a XXX will cure it unless it has a different float configuration. Standing the bike up has cured the problem for the most part. I should have taken a pic if the bike on the stand and its lean. It was to the point where I would almost split stitches to stand her up off the stand. I put the old stand on and sat the bike down on it. Placed a small level on the back of the carb and drew a level line across the back of the bowl. Took bowl off and maybe, and I mean MAYBE, 20 % of the float would be in gas when it was on stand. I think I created my own problem by puttin on that stand. Just curious if anyone else had seen that. I am abit of a nut for things working the way they should. I turn the gas off now but I shouldnt have to so that is why I am trying to figure it out. Thanks for all the help!!

Husker, the xXx (Triple X now) is a modification to your carb or exchange which ever you like. It's not a new/different carburetor.
