run switch issue or starter?

So went to start chopper last night, hit run Thanks start then it clicked. Waited a second pushed it again and it fired right up. Replaced battery and voltage regulator last summer, had same issues im having now...short somewhere in switch? Starter? When got.back from ride shut it off, clicked again, waited a second and fired right up. Please help tired of this issue, 06 chopper only 2400 miles. Thanks Jason

I have the same issue and its the battery on mine, when I hit the run button when I first get it out, its like its thinking whether it wants to turn over or not and I have it on a tender all the time. My battery is 2 yrs old but I don't know how long it sat on the shelf before I bought it cause it load tested to the same amps as the one I replaced, which was 2 yrs older, go figure, I just bought a XP-3 from Curtis and threw it in the bag just incase it lets me sit, so I can jump it. Did you check when its running to be sure the VR is putting out?

No I haven't. How do you do that?

With a multimeter check the voltage on the battery. Should be 13+ volts. Turn on the switch volts will drop a little. Start the bike and check volts again. Should go up a little to around 14 volts. Increase rpms checking volts. May increase but should not go much over 14.4 volts. VE regulates voltage from going too high. Stator/alternator generates voltage to charge

If I were to guess, I would say the solenoid contacts aren't making full contact when you get the click. Next time around the connection is better due to a little electrical arc cleaning and or better full contact. You can clean your solenoid or purchase a new one. I am assuming you have good battery connections and a strong battery.

:iagree: it just take pulling starter and the the selonoid cover and sanding and cleaning the copper connections. If you do this every couple or three years you won't get stranded. If this is your issue and I think it is jmo
