rubber dry rot

Just a heads up.........
As I was doing the first detailing of the bike this year, I noticed that the large gauged wire that runs to the starter and that has a rubber insulating jacket on it had started to dry rot. Kinda not a big deal, but I did notice that it runs close to other metal grounding surfaces. The rubber just seems to be falling apart, so for now, a good wrap with some Scotch 33 electrical tape should do the trick. Just thought I'd mention it..........:D

I just removed the boot & old rubber then heat shrinked several times to build up thinkness.. then replaced boot.... but my boot was in good shape ,, you may need a new boot also...

They use to warranty the whole starter when that happened. I shrink wrapped mine before I found out about it. Not sure if they warranty them now though.

Mine was recently at the shop for this and some other things, BDM just had the guy put heat shrink over it; it looks fine and I am on my way.

Wow this is a new one on me. So, I searched the internet & came up with several.
Which brand to you guys like the best & do you the brush or spray on?

I could have used it on my WP install.

Better tape to use

I came across a better of tape to use on this repair.
Better, because it stretches VERY tight and WELDS itself together.
You only need 4 or 5 inches as it stretches around on itself very tightly.
I found that other tapes eventually un-ravel whereas this butyl tapes is
holding up very well.

After seeing how well it worked on the wire off the selenoid, I proceeded
to wrap some of the wire on my trailer.

Key word to search is "butyl" tape.
