I do not have a TACH and need to tune in my Super G with new jets. How does everybody set the 1000 RPM without a TACH? Some inexpensive tool?

why don't you just set it to what feels right - its not an exact thing anyway. The BDM tach only has a light for every 500 rpm anyway.

Tachs for the older dogs are the needle type like your speedo. Watch ebay, I crabed one for about 75 bucks.

Ignition module diags and a laptop? If you've already got the computer, the cable will be the most expensive part, ~$30...

You have an older Dog. Just set it to what feels right to you. The idle changes with weather also, that's what I found out. So I'm always fussing around with it. No big deal.

But you have to know what "feels right".

I set me idle by ear. Then again i've been around Harleys all my life so i have a pretty good idea how it should sound when it's idling. if you have the idle set too fast the bike will really jump when you put it in 1st gear.

just slow it down til its about to die then increase it a touch (maybe a quarter turn maybe even less) so its ticking over nicely. Job done. Just make sure you do it when the engine is warmed up.
