My frame cracked nearly in same spot and I called Sam from Rolling Thunder in Canada the one that supplied Big Dog with there frames and went ape shit with him on the phone I'd give him a call pronto and bitch him out cause I got news for you your not the only one who's frame will crack there known for that happening Rolling Thunder Frames suck. I sent my frame back to them and they fixed it put it in a jigging machine to make it straight and added a support to my frame I have now. Jerk Offs charged me $700 plus I paid s/h each way. I should have sued the shit out them. This happened to me at 60Mph and I had no idea till I almost lost control of the bike.

Impressive pictures -- I've not heard of a Rolling Thunder frame cracking there.

Maybe Big Bear Choppers did the welding on that one!

WOW those pic's make me cringe.
Our roads over here in Queensland Australia are a discrase, pot holes everywhere.
Last Saturday a friend on a CVO almost flipped the whole bike, more good luck it did not spit him off and take out 5 other bikes, no warning at all.
Because of that, i check my frame whenever i wash/polish the Dog.
Hell i have broken moto-x bike necks but nothing like that.

Just curious, but how often was your bike in the rain since you've owned it? That's some scary stuff right there. Can't believe a frame for a motorcycle would/should ever do that just from a few pot holes or such. Best of luck with repairs.
I don't think I can recall how many times I've been in the rain with this dog. I ride quite a lot, at least 10-15k miles per season. Got the bike in November 2011 at 17k miles (speedo wasn't working), replaced the speedo, now I have somewhere close to roughly 40k miles on it. And of all the things that broke down on the bike, that S&S just kept on going and going, oil change after oil change. To me, as long as the engine turns, the rest is.. expendable :2thumbs:

Doug, thank you for this feedback. In a way I feel that it wasn't my fault completely or the road's. As for calling Rolling Thunder, that won't help me much since I'm in Europe and just shipping alone would cost me two new frames :loony: .

I'm sure I can weld it here just as well.
I would really appreciate if you could post a picture with your frame after it has been repaired, so I could get an idea how to do mine.
Thank you again!

ZeDevil I'm on my way out the door I will post them tonight when I get home I'll take some for you. I highly suggest you do it the right way and have that frame put in what is called a JIGGING MACHINE it is a frame straightner don't mind my spelling it sucks. This way you don't kill yourself. I would call rolling thunder and make them pay for the s/h this is bullshit. That's 2 so far I know of myself and you and I'm sure many more that could've been killed thanks to rolling thunder.

Do a search on that here. There was a recall on the 2003 Rolling Thunder frame. My bike was shipped back to Big Dog during winter of 2004 to have the fix done. I believe they added reinforcement to frame underneath the gas tank. I think someone posted some pics.
Another problem I had was the shock mounting bolts being over-torqued. I had 3 of 4 break on me. Dragged one shock home. Those grade 8 bolts are a pain to drill out. I had to remove rear swing arm to fix.

Wow sorry to hear Z. Glad that it didn't fully separate and collapse on you while riding. This could have turned out really bad!

Guys at the local shop took off the tank to start the repair and guess what - backbone is also broken. They phoned to ask how the hell did I ride it like so for 200 miles, I said: I had no ideea.

Anyway, does anyone have a picture with a welded frame at the backbone or neck?
Doug has forgot about me or doesn't seem to be reading his messages :(
I really need to get it done this week, I have to attend an important rally.

Thanks in advance.
