rocker box removal

I need to change out my compression releases. I removed the rocker box cover and I can see the hex head bolts holding down the rockers cradle or whatever it's called. i just thought I read somewhere that you can't just losen them up, that it has to be done in some type of order or it can crack something to do with the pushrods. Can someone please walk me through removing the rockers so I can change the compression releases. If I can just remove the bolts on the rocker cradle that's great just need to know. I really want to do it myself instead of paying a local bike shop, plus I'm trying to learn how to fix my bike myself. Thanks
