Risk it?

I found this when doing my pre-ride check. Was planning to take a ride tomorrow. With this "gouge" on my drive belt, should I risk it? What should i expect to pay when I take it in for replacement? Thanks.

if you can wait Mcgroom(mick) can get you one when he gets back from sturgis. not hard to repalce just takes time. exhaust has to come off, clutch loosened, pulley cover off, rear wheel off, put new belt on and reverse process, align rear wheel, and adjust clutch.

Looks like you picked something up on the road....does it go through the otherside?

If your only going down to the bar as long as you take it easy you should be allright...

My friend had a stone get stuck between the pulley and belt. It put a hole in the center of his belt. Still riding it. Those belts are pretty tough.

That is going to tear at that point -- replace it before riding or it will fail at the worst possible place.

If it were me I would ride it until I had time to change it. That belt is twice as wide as a Harley, it will hold fine.:D

If the cut is not all the way through the belt...I'd ride it. I've had a hole in the center of my belt for 2 years.

i rode for a long time with the edge thinned on one side of the belt from a rock getting trapped. after it happened again in the same spot I changed the belt and took the damn "belt guard" off.

I would check both pulleys for any damage while replacing the belt. If you have any burs, just file them down. Wouldn't want to damage the new belt.
